Settings used
Sidereal zodiac with Lahiri ayanamsa, mean Rahu and Ketu, whole-sign houses. Positions were checked against the Swiss Ephemeris for births from 1900 to today. This is the common setup in Tamil Nadu, so the kattam should match a printed computer jathagam made elsewhere, apart from rare cases where the birth time sits right on a boundary.
How to read the jathagam kattam in Tamil

- மீனம் is always the top-left box. From there the signs run clockwise: along the top row to மிதுனம், down the right side, back along the bottom and up the left.
- Find the lagnam. The box holding the rising sign is marked with a diagonal line and the letter ல (for லக்னம்). That box is the 1st house.
- Count houses clockwise from the lagnam box. The next box clockwise is the 2nd house, and so on.
- Read the short letters. Each graha appears as a short Tamil letter: சூ (Sun), சந் (Moon), செ (Mars), பு (Mercury), கு (Jupiter), சு (Venus), சனி (Saturn), ரா (Rahu), கே (Ketu). A vakram graha is marked.
- The four middle boxes are empty space for the name and the chart title.
